A Napoleon III gilt-bronze and malachite vitrine,
late 19th century, the veneering possibly later

the upper section with a rectangular malachite top above a cornice fitted with leaf-tip cast gilt-bronze mounts and a frieze fitted with gilt-bronze masks above a single glazed door and two smaller panels, each panel flanked by rectangular malachite columns fitted with gilt-bronze figures, the sides with glazed panels, the lower section with malachite-veneered panelled front and sides; raised on rectangular tapering legs
185cm. high, 125cm. wide, 44.5cm. deep; 6ft.⅞in., 4ft. 1¼in., 1ft. 5½in.

Condition Report:
In overall good restored condition. As visible in the catalogue image, the gilt bronze mounts are slightly tarnished and would benefit from a light cleaning according to taste. Otherwise with minor old marks and scratches consistent with age and use and no apparent losses to mounts. The vibrantly green malachite in good condition and with minor chipping to edges and corners as to be expected. The base of the left handside column on the front is slightly loose but it remains securely attached to the cabinet. One small loss to back right handside corner of upper half. Two small losses (one to the top edge, and another to the right handside of the front, along a glass panel) to malachite veneers. The glass in good condition, some light marks and scratches which are not distracting.
Please note the malachite veneering on this vitrine is possibly later.
