A PAIR OF BERLIN FAIENCE BLACK-LACQUERED AND MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID VASES AND COVERS, 19TH CENTURY

the surface 'japanned' in imitation of Chinese lacquer in black, of baluster form, the inlay decoration formed of birds and insects in flight among flowering branches, gilt-edged rims, the covers surmounted with cockerel finials

Condition Report:
Covers - one with a 2 and half inch section of rim re-stuck and one foot of the cockerel chipped away. Overall both covers and vases have some flaking and retouching - particularly to the rims of the covers and the widest part of the vases. One vase has a fine haircrack to the neck. The other has a hair crack across the base and a short haircrack to the neck.
