A PAIR OF GEORGE I WALNUT AND MARQUETRY SIDE CHAIRS
EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Each high rectangular back and seat covered in later gilt-thread and red silk velvet damask decorated with ducal coronets, on cabriole legs headed by acanthus and husk-inlaid panels and square feet, inscribed in red paint to the underside '11405' and '11405', one with further label inscribed in black ink 'B. / 14E'
44 in. (112 cm.) high; 23 in. (58.5 cm.) wide; 25 ½ in. (65 cm.) deep

Provenance

Almost certainly supplied to Sir William Bateman, 1st Viscount Batemen and Baron Culmore (d. 1744), Shobdon Court, Herefordshire and by descent to The Rt. Hon. Lord Bateman,
sold Christie's, London, 8 July 1926, lot 81 [a set of six chairs] (850 gns to Frank Partridge).
