KILLADOON HOUSE, PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT IRISH ESTATE

A PAIR OF IRISH GEORGE IV ROSEWOOD SIDE CABINETS, CIRCA 1825, ATTRIBUTED TO MACK, WILLIAMS & GIBTON

the breakfront white moulded marble top above a conforming frieze with glazed doors divided by twist turned pillars with leaf carved collars on a plinth base
95.5cm. high, 166cm. wide, 45cm. deep; 3ft. 1¾in., 5ft. 5¼in., 1ft 5¾in.

Condition Report:
A smart pair of side cabinets in reasonable country house condition. The carving of superior quality. The marble tops with old marks, chips and scratches and there is one corner to left breakfront of one cabinet with a repaired break. The back edge of one top with a shadow from the mirror which hung above in the drawing room at Killadoon. The cabinets have been extended in depth and the central glazed pain is a later replacement. These restoration are likely to have been made by the cabinet-maker shortly after the cabinets made and around the time they are listed at Killadoon in 1829 probably to adapt them from bookcases to display cabinets. Two paterae missing, one from each cabinet and there is evidence that some of the other paterae have been re-attached. Re-polished and the polish to the side of one cabinet and around the lower edge of each with losses and signs of water damage. The bases to each have also minor chips and losses to rosewood veneers, notably to the corners. One spirally fluted column with residue which appears to be a pale green paint. Generally both cabinets will benefit from clean and a polish as the carving displays much engrained dirt and dust. The foliate capital of one column possibly a later replacement. Some of the shelves are a bit sticky. Two keys.
