A Piacenza Hussar officer's sabre
dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Italy, Fine, slightly curved, single-and false-edged blade, in damask, with deep, central groove that doubles at the foible, cylindrical back, the base marked 'DAMASCO' and 'COUPANT LE FER' on a gilded ground, marked tang and with inscription 'S. HOPP & FILS'. Iron hilt with engraved knuckle, pierced with floral motifs. Long cap and grip covered with fish skin, with metallic wire binding. Iron scabbard with two suspension rings. Clutches and a sword-knot. length 98 cm.
