A pocket sundial with compass by Pigeon
dating: late 18th Century provenance: France, Brass watch case. Circular quadrant, engraved both in Roman and Arabic numbers, signed 'Pigeon a Lyon' in the center. Compass with intact glass at the base (slightly matt) and functioning. Folding gnomon, realized with two plates, engraved to effigy a bird, that hold the main plate, decorated with rinceaux. Back with inscriptions of various European cities and relative latitude. Godeffroy-Jean-César Pigeon (1728-1811). dimensions closed 9 x 0,7 cm.
