With applied 'lion mask' handles, the base unglazed, 18th century, diameter c. 22 cm.
PROVENANCE:
From the collection of Peter Karberg (1840-1922), thence by descent to the present owner.
He was the son of Christian Karberg who owned the Karberg Shipping Company. They had several ships that sailed under the flag of Hong Kong. Peter started working at the company's Hong Kong office in 1860, in 1866 he founded an import/export company together with Jacob Arnold. Arnold, Karberg & Co became an important company that traded in all sorts of goods.Show more
