A Pair of Music Concert Programmes: Jimi Hendrix Experience, Saville Theatre, 1967; and Fillmore East, Jethro Tull and John Sebastian, 1970 - Jimi Hendrix: Original programme for Jimmy Hendrix Experience second appearance at Brian Epstein’s Sunday Night at the Saville Theatre, Shaftsbury Avenue, London, dated May 7th, 1967, vibrant psychedelic card covers, featuring The Experience and profiles of the supporting acts on the bill, including Denny Laine with Strings Attached, The 1-2-3, Garnet Mimms, and resident compare, Rick Dane, printed by Hasting Printing Co, 4-pages, 15 x 21.5cm; together with, Jethro Tull and John Sebastian: Original Fillmore East Concert Programme, promoting a run of shows presented by Bill Graham at the legendary Fillmore East, 105 Second Avenue, New York, May 21-23, 1970, sepia illustrated paper covers, featuring album advertisements, upcoming shows at the rock venue, photo. illustrations, and profiles of Jethro Tull, Clouds, John Sebastian, and Joe’s Lights, printed by Fillmore East Corporation, 1970, 20-pages, 14 x 22cm. (2) Provenance: The Collection of Billy Ritchie (b. 1944). Scottish keyboard player, guitarist, composer, and former member of The Satellites, The Premiers, 1-2-3, and Clouds. Ritchie is generally acknowledged as being the first keyboard player in rock music to stand and take the lead, and for re-writing music arrangements and songs in a style that later became known as progressive rock. Billy’s band 1-2-3, were managed by Brian Epstein, and whilst appearing as one of the supporting acts in the 1967 Saville Theatre concert, Billy took along his friend, a then-unknown David Bowie, and introduced him to Jimi Hendrix in the dressing room . . .Billy Ritchie commented . . . ‘Jimmy never knew he was talking to a future superstar. 20 years later David and others spoke about us [1-2-3] being the main influence for bands like Yes, King Crimson, ELP, and others . . . ’. Billy Ritchie’s band, Clouds, were also one of the supporting acts at the New York Fillmore East concert in 1970, and following Brian Epstein’s death, Clouds were managed by Terry Ellis (founder of Chrysalis Records) . . . ‘We were one of Terry’s first band and soon afterwards, he signed Jethro Tull, and the rest is history as they say . . . ‘
