A Persian Safavid bowl

Of circular form, painted in Chinese style, the front decorated with a central quatrefoil panel containing a basket of flowers, the wide rim with panels of flowers, decorated to the reverse with floral scrolls around the rim and leafy branches bearing peaches alongside butterflies on the outer wall, the base with a pseudo square seal mark.Period: 18th century. Diameter: 28 cm.

Safavid potters crafted wares that followed the Chinese Kraak style. The peach motif on the reverse of this dish is typical Kraak decoration. Over time, the peach decoration evolved into a sunflower design.
