A QUEEN ANNE BURR WALNUT AND FEATHER BANDED BUREAUCIRCA 1710The fall opening to a stepped interior including an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes centred by a small cupboard door above a slide covered well and a tooled leather inset writing surface110cm high, 101cm wide, 60cm deep Provenance: Phillips of HitchinFor a related burr walnut and walnut bureau see Christie's, London, Important English Furniture, 13th November 1997, Lot 108 (£31,050). See also Christie's London, Fine English Furniture including the Berger Collection, 12th February 1998, Lot 510 (£26,450).Condition Report: Bureau with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Various old splits and chips. Cleaned polished/polished appearance. Some fading to timber. Old veneer repairs (see images). Some evidence of old worm. Three keys present. they operate the locks to the fall, the small interior cupboard door, and two of the drawers. The other two locks to the drawers are seized in the open position. Various old ink stains to interior of bureau section. Tooled leather inset surface is a later replacement. It bears the expected wear, scratches and creases/small tears along the fold line. Metalware is replaced. Some small plugged holes and 'shadow' visible to drawer fronts from previous fixtures. Feet are later well matched replacements.
