A REGENCY MAHOGANY SINGLE FUSEE WALL DIAL TIMEPIECE

[ translate ]

A REGENCY MAHOGANY SINGLE FUSEE WALL DIAL TIMEPIECE THE DIAL SIGNED FOR BARRAUDS, LONDON, EARLY 19TH CENTURY Numbered 1219 29cm diameter Condition Report: Movement appears complete and in clean condition with no visible evidence of alteration. The pinions to the wheelwork are noticeably long hence it is possible that the wheel train has been re-pinioned later in the 19th century or early 20th century. The fusee line is currently broken but the spring appears to still hold tension (when manually turned) and there is no visible damage to the wheelwork. The movement is attached to the wooden dial via feet to brass ring screwed in-turn to the wooden panel. Although the brass ring relatively clean looking it appears to be the original arrangement (was probably taken-off cleaned-up when the clock was last serviced). The rear of the wooden dial panel is inscribed in ink 'Barrauds, 1219' which supports the probability that this timepiece is from the Barrauds workshop. The dial is 10 inch diameter and appears to retain old light cream painted surface with overall light horizontal cracking. The areas of black (numerals and signature) have been strengthened and faults are generally limited to a few light surface scuffs and scratches. The slender cast brass bezel is in good condition with sound hinge and working clock which appears undisturbed. The wooden surround is free from splits/cracks and has very good dark colouring to the rear surfaces. The box case is in sound condition but has been cosmetically restored at some point hence the surfaces have been cleaned-up and repolished (ie. does not have the same dark colouring). The rear has a door which appears original in good condition. The curved base has evidence of shrinkage cracking and veneer movement as well as veneer patch repairs to the front left and rear right-hand corners. The veneer to the hinged flap also has a veneer patch repair around the escutcheon.Timepiece is complete with pendulum, winder and two case keys. Condition Report Disclaimer
