A ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF A WOMAN WEARING A FILLET CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D. Set on a modern stand head approx 22cm high38cm with stand Provenance: Bruno Cooper Condition Report: With wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Chips, wear and losses most conspicuously to nose, eyelids, ears (her true right ear has white smudge behind it under UV suggesting small spot repair). Orange stain to true right of neck, darker stains/colour to true right back side of hair which may be accretion of later material. Scratches throughout- notably to true right of her nose, middle of eyebrows, right of mouth. The whole with dirt and dust to surface which is engrained- notably to recessed areas. As part of the estate of Ian Rosenfeld there are no receipts or paperwork relating to his acquisition of this work. The provenance has come verbally from the family and no further information is available. Morley (Bruno) Cooper was born in the USA but came to England to pursue a successful academic career. On retirement he transformed his hobby of antique collecting into a thriving business first based in Suffolk and Norfolk. He died in 2012.
