A Rare 18th century French ormolu giant Cartel Clock with Signed and Dated Dial
The dial signed Robin a Paris, the dial made by Barbezat and dated 1776
The ormolu case surmounted by a twin-handled urn, leading down to a frieze with four cone finials, with foliate scrollwork and drapery to the sides framing the dial. An open pendulum aperture underneath, leading down to further foliate scrollwork centred by a female mask. The signed 9 inch white enamel Roman and Arabic dial with outer minute markers with pierced and engraved hands signed Robin a Paris, the back of the dial signed and dated Barbezat 1776, the movement with rectangular plates united by pinned pillars (one now screwed) with tic-tac escapement with silk suspension, with the countwheel mounted on the backplate striking on a bell.
