[ translate ]

A Russian Neoclassical Brass Inlaid Mahogany Bench

Early 19th Century

with Scalamandré Santa Margarita upholstery.
Height 32 x width 30 1/2 x depth 19 1/2 inches.

Property from a Private Collection, Detroit, Michigan European Furniture & Decorative Arts
In overall good, stable and very attractive condition. The upholstery in good condition and the cushion full without noticeable indentation. Having some dents, marks and chips to the frame as is normal for age. Splits in the wood scattered throughout the decoration, particularly at the poles of some of the oval shapes. One of the brass inlays are loose to the reverse and partially detached from the chair. The upper inlaid band on the proper right edge of the seat appears to have been replaced by a gold strip of wood rather than brass, to mimic the look but replace what has apparently been lost. Few other mounts suggest having been re-adhered in place. Additional images available upon request.

Provenance:
Newel, New York
