A SET OF SEVEN CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN 'BUTTERFLY' CUPS AND COVERS.
Of ogee-form, standing on a small foot, decorated with butterflies in garden landscapes with flowers, painted in famille rose enamels in pink, green, blue, yellow, turquoise, black, brown and iron red, both cup and cover with seal marks in iron red, one extra cover follows with this lot. Period: Guangxu (1875–1908).
Height: 7.5 cm, diameter: 9.5 cm.
Provenance: Hans Olwaeus (1929–1998). He worked as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, Sweden. In the 1950's and 1960's he worked in China and Japan, during which time his collection grew. By traveling around the world he was able to collect and bring back high quality porcelain, bronzes, snuff bottles and textiles. Good condition consistent with age and use, minor surface wear, two cups and covers with hairline cracks, a few small chips to the covers.
