A SMALL MID TO LATE 15TH CENTURY OAK AND POLYCHROME PANEL OF A LADY AND GRIFFIN, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1450-1480. A fine quality small oak panel with original multi colour polychrome, depicting a maiden in contemporary costume of flowing robes and garland in her hair holding a tethered and collared Griffin painted in contrasting blue and red, all set on a millefleur background, 22cm x 30cm. Note - In medieval heraldry, the griffin became a Christian symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine.
