A Sèvres plate from the 'service du palais impérial de Bordeaux' for Napoleon I, circa 1808
The well decorated with a central gilt floral motif surrounded by a gilt-edged lilac-ground band around the edge of the well, the gilt-edged rim with a foliate and floral border, 23.4cm diam., 'M.Imp.le/ de Sevres' stencilled in iron-red, incised marks, D. in iron-red (very minor flaking to enamels)

Purchased on 8 June 1808 by Napoleon I for the palais de Bordeaux
The present lot was purchased for the Emperor's use at his palace in Bordeaux and was intended as a dinner and dessert service. The Imperial couple stopped over in Bordeaux in Spring 1808 on their way to Spain. It was the Emperor's custom to furnish the different palaces he stayed in, such as the Palais Rohan in Bordeaux.
