A 'TRANSYLVANIAN' COUPLED-COLUMN PRAYER RUG, CENTRAL OR WEST ANATOLIA

late 17th/early 18th century

approximately 182 by 124 cm.

Condition Report:
Woven “upside down”. Heavily depressed warps (ladik-like). Pile evenly low to knot head throughout and with spot foundation visible as can be seen in the illustration. Some small reweaves visible in the field e.g. one approx 5cm by 3cm to left of left hand columns; one approx 6cm by 2cm in field and inner guard to right of right hand columns; another in right hand yellow curled in spandrel approx 13cm by 2.5cm. losses to edges and sides, upper guard stripe mainly missing, lower guard stripe partial, right hand corners partly rebuilt. Generally an honest example and vast majority in original condition.
