A Victorian Gothic brass Corona Lucis / Chandelier, probably by John Hardman & Co. New Hall Birmingham*, the upper tier in the form of a crown and cast with ecclesiastically-shaped fleur-de-lis and crucifix motifs, decorated with applied five-petal brass flowers, 8in diameter x 9in high (20cm x 23cm), the matching lower tier suspended by chains with decorative brass ball connectors, supporting eight candle sconces and eight oil lamps, 30in (76cm) diameter; overall height 53in x total width (including the oil lamp bases) 52in (135cm x 132cm); together with a pair of similar brass wall-mounted oil lamps. This lot includes a set of later glass funnels and two sets of glass shades - one white, one black.
*A similar example is illustrated in John Hardman & Co, Catalogue 1885, page 12, item 7. Provenance: the vendor was told by the previous owner of her house, that this was bought from a London Architectural Salvage merchant who had bought it from a Church in Soho, either late 1960s or early 1970s.
