A Victorian Scottish silver sugar bowl, the circular tapering form embossed throughout with flowers, foliage and scrolls enclosing monogrammed cartouche, hallmarked James McKay, Edinburgh probably 1844. Together with a similarly decorated cream jug, of bulbous shape with scroll handle and raised on stepped hoof feet, hallmarked Edinburgh 1876, maker's mark AB. Weight 9.15 ozt (284.5 grams). (2).
Condition Report:
- Both items displaying general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- Sugar bowl with a few knocks and dints, mainly around the base rim.
- Heavier scratches visible to the interior base. Also with faded gilding.
- Some surface wear and rubbing to areas of the decoration but generally ok overall.
- Hallmarks partly rubbed but legible.
- Cream jug with a couple of minor surface dints, mainly around lower body. Possible repair at join of one foot to main body.
- Some surface wear and rubbing to areas of the decoration but generally ok overall.
- Hallmarks located to the underside, lightly rubbed but in good order. Appears to be a circular seam line around the hallmarks.
