A Victorian gilt bronze and glazed hanging lantern in Gothic revival taste
A Victorian gilt bronze and glazed hanging lantern in Gothic revival taste, late 19th century and later refitted for electricity, of octagonal section, with arched and quatrefoil tracery to the panes, beneath faceted finials; a knopped stem rising to a hanging ring, 73cm high excluding chain, 32cm wide
Provenance: Gayton Hall, Wirrall
Condition Report:
The lantern bears the usual minor knocks, scuffs and abrasions overall consistent with age and use. The gilding is probably original but is worn in places, and in other areas has a brushed look. The glass panes are in good order. The only apparent loss is a circa 6cm length of the tubular metal beading that runs around the underside. There are only two links of the original hanging chain present. The lantern has been refitted for electicity, but this will need to be renewed. There is no metal fitment suspension within the lantern, the single socket currently hanging on its own cable
