A Victorian silver-gilt mounted travelling dressing table set,

retailed by Asprey, 166 Bond Street, the silver by John Harris, London 1856,

the covers with engraved foliate scroll decoration, with a crowned monogram, comprising: a beaker, three scent bottles, two jars and four boxes, hobnail cut glass bodies, two glass bodies a.f, with a tray of implements including a pencil, a cork screw and three other items with mother-of-pearl handles, the front with a jewellery drawer with a writing slope, the interior of the hinged cover with a stationary wallet, in a fitted brass bound coromandel case, with a crowned monogram, and with a leather storm jacket, length 37.3cm, approx. weighable 16oz.

Provenance:

The crowned initials MH are for Mary Anna Devereux, Viscountess Hereford.

She was born in 1844, daughter of Sir Charles Morgan, 1st Baron Tredegar, and was married in 1863 to Robert Devereux, 16th Viscount Hereford. She died in 1924.

By family descent to the current owner.
