A Victorian sterling silver tea caddy, London 1861 by William Stocker (reg. Aug 1848) In the George III style, of oval form with beaded rims and decoration with bright cut engraved bands of lozenges and leaf quatre foils against a striated ground. The flat disc lid with a similar engraved band and detachable central ring pull handle. Key aperture and lock to front. Fully marked underneath, part-marked to lid and lock plate, ring pull unmarked. Also incuse stamped underneath Lambert, Coventry St, London. Length – 13 cm / 5 inches Weight – 339 grams / 10.9 ozt George Lambert & Co is known to have supplied many ‘reproductions’ examples of silver from the William III – Queen Anne era in Britannia standard from at least the 1880’s, this tea caddy is an early example of reproducing earlier styles which at this point wad only approximately sixty years old.
