A William IV chased silver christening mug.
A William IV silver christening mug, of slightly flared rim to a bulbous lower body, with chased decoration depicting geese within floral and foliate surrounds, and vacant cartouche, with scroll handle and raised on a footed base with petal shape rim, all with conforming foliate detail. Hallmarked Richard Pearce & George Burrows, London 1837. Height including handle 4.5" (11.5cm), weight 5.19 ozt (161.4 grams).
Condition Report:
- Appears in fairly good overall condition.
- Displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- Possible repair around the join of the top of the handle to the lid.
- Surface rubbing to areas of the decoration, causing some slight loss of detail.
- Residues of polish to some areas.
- Residues of sticky label to underside of base.
- Maker's mark partly rubbed. Other hallmarks with light surface rubbing, mainly the Duty mark.
