A Yemeni silver-mounted saif, 19th century
Sturdy European blade, with two fullers on each side. Silver quillons with short crosspiece, small terminals with relief decoration and a central floral ornament. Engraved silver grip scales with en suite engraved grip strap and lavishly embellished pommel plate. The wooden scabbard covered in red velvet, complete with an engraved silver sheath of fine openwork, three attached suspension rings (one has been replaced). Length 96 cm.
A magnificent weapon from the southernmost part of the Arabian peninsula.
