A carved wood relief of Saint George, probably Central German, second half 15th century

Carved from two blocks, the reverse flattened. With partially overpainted older polychromy. High-relief depiction of Saint George on horseback dressed in a suit of armour, piercing the open maw of the dragon at his feet with a lance. The large figure is shown before a landscape with the outline of city forming the upper border. The princess rescued by Saint George is depicted as a kneeling figure in the background of the work alongside a lamb.

The two blocks are stabilised by a horizontal beam. The lower left edge and the lance replaced. Several vertical cracks. 98 x 56 x 20 cm. Provenance
