A deluxe Viennese percussion rifle from a comital
The octagonal Damascus barrel slightly constricted in the middle with six-groove rifled bore in 11 mm calibre. Dovetailed, blued sights. The signature "Jeschek in Josephstadt" inlaid in silver at the breech, behind which gold-inlaid tendrils. Delicately engraved breech plug and snail. A depiction of a standing hunter chiselled on the tang. The lock with finely engraved decorative tendrils and occasional gold inlays. Adjustable set trigger. Half stock made of walnut, with fine chequering. A depiction of Wilhelm Tell in relief on the cheek. The gold thumb plate engraved with a count's coronet. Finely engraved trigger guard with a horn hand rest. Length 112.5 cm.Joseph Jeschek of Josephstadt (Vienna) became a master craftsman in 1842 and guild master in 1858.Condition: I - II
