A fabulous Etruscan terracotta head of a young woman

A fabulous Etruscan terracotta head of a young woman, c. 4th - 3rd Century BC, her youthful features wonderfully modeled, her hair in a mass of tight curls below a narrow diadem with central rosette and pulled into a narrow bun high on the back of her head. 9 1/4 x 8 in (18.5 x 20.3 cm). A fabulous example of the Etruscan mastery of the ceramic art. Some repair to neck and small areas of restoration below chin and below jaw line, otherwise well-preserved with light surface deposits and remnants of pigment. Ex estate of Harold Whitbeck, San Francisco CA, formed between the 1980's and 1990's from major auction houses and galleries in the US and UK.
