A fine and imposing Austrian/South German free-standing

The wood with finely carved openwork and poliment gilding in places, partially ebonised. The carved, partially ebonised clock case with multiple curlicues and a glass bezel, standing on delicate, carved and gilt, S-shaped curving feet. The front of the clock embellished with elaborate, openworked Rococo flourishes with C-shaped, curving rocailles, blossoms and tendrils, plus a shell ornament crowned with a bow at the top. On which a small pedestal with a memento mori depiction carved in boxwood and a cross on the top. Suspended on which a three-nail type figure of Christ wearing a striking loincloth, also carved in boxwood, plus a small INRI plaque. The lunette with a hammered, finely chased front section, featuring a crowned double-headed eagle and Reich insignia, dolphins and fruit baskets in silver-plated copper. The brass movement probably designed to run for eight days, striking the hour on a bell, the enamelled dial with Arabic numerals and gilt Rococo hands. Signs of age. Restored. Some parts replaced. The dial knocked. The running time not checked. The gilding rubbed in places.
