in the form of a skeleton wearing a large hat and mid-17th century boots, carrying a mandolin around his shoulder, supported on a slightly-waisted stepped lapis lazuli base

It has previously also been suggested that the present lot might be of earlier origin. Some minor losses to enamel, the strap of the mandoline bent and detached, a few minute chips to lapis on the corners of the base, the gold base on the plinth slightly crooked
