A group of 11 WW II and later war medals, awarded to Albert Reginald Rogers, of the 19th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps (Home Guard), 1939-1942; served as a stoker aboard Landing Barge Vehicle (Medium) 121, 9th Landing Barge Flotilla during D Day and subsequent operations, 1944; served as private with 2nd Bn, Royal East Kent Regt in India, Burma and Java, 1945-1946, mounted on a bar, comprising from left to right, the Distinguished Service Medal, the1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, the France And Germany Star, the Burma Star, the Defence Medal (1939-1945), the War Medal (1939-1945), the General Service Medal with clasps (S.E Asia, 1945-1946, Malaya), the British Commonwealth Occupational Forces Medal (Japan 1946-1952), the Territorial Efficiency Medal, European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, together with accompanying documentation from the Ministry of Defence, service records detailing D Day landing and the service aboard the Royal Navy Stoker KX166091, service records and documentation pertaining to service in the The Buffs (post WWII), medal award papers, ship diagrams, a copy of an interview with Mr Rogers, and a large quantity of photographs

Mr Roberts was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in March 2002 for actions during his service onboard Landing Barge Vehicle (Medium) 121, where he saved the lives of two crewmen that fell overboard. Due to his discharge from the navy, and transfer to The Royal East Kent Regiment in 1944 this was never awarded upon the end of the war in 1945. It was only by chance, due to one of the crewmen finding Mr Roberts depicted in 'Wallowing Beauties: Story of Landing Barges in World War II' and telling the story to his grandchild, who happened to work for the Ministry of Defence, that they were able to track down Mr Rogers to award him the medal. This is confirmed in the correspondence accompanying the medals.
