A large George IV sterling silver twin handled covered sugar bowl, London 1825 by Joseph Angell Of campana form upon a domed circular foot, the acanthus capped twin double C scroll handles with cast thumbpieces formed as maiden’s heads. The domed pull off lid surmounted by a floral finial with leafy stem. The body with profusely embossed decoration of gourds, grapes, pineapple and other fruit reserved foliage and flower heads all against a stippled ground, the lower section to each side with a vacant asymmetrical C scroll cartouche. The cast rim of trailing foliage. The foot rim and lid similarly embossed. Gilt interior. Fully marked to underside of body, part-marked to the interior of the lid and with maker’s mark to the bezel. Length – 24.2 cm / 9.5 inches Weight – 18 cm / 7.1 inches Weight – 881 grams / 28.32 ozt
