A large Russian Rococo revival silver coffee and tea service, gilt interior, comprising coffee pot, tea pot, creamer, sugar bowl, milk jug and cake bowl, fluted design, casted and chased with flowers, foliage, rocailles and cartouches, mother-of-pearl finials. Weigth 4,159 g. (including parts of other material). H. from 12 cm. to 24 cm. (6).

Coffee pot, tea pot and creamer: Adolf Sper, assayer Dmitri Ilich Tverskoi 1841, 1838 and indistinct date, 84 standard, St. Petersburg town mark.

Sugar bowl, milk jug and cake bowl: Workmaster Fedor Anatolievich Lorie, master Igor Kusmich Tcheriatov (active 1912–1916), assayer Ivan Sergeievich Lebedkin in Moscow 1899–1914, 84 standard.

It is evident - based on the similar design and decorations - that the coffee- and tea pots with the creamer were later supplemented with the sugar bowl, milk jug and cake bowl. In this way, it became one service as a whole.

Provenance: Seller's grandfather, Erhard Marinus Petersen (f. Aalborg 1887, d. Frederiksberg 1972), who worked for The Great Northern Telegraph Company in St. Petersburg before the Russian revolution. Here, in 1915, he also married Hedvig Elisabeth Petersen, née Kursawe. Afterwards, Erhard Marinus Petersen was Danish official and vice consul in St. Petersburg and Moscow until 1941. After a few other postings for the Danish Foreign Ministry they moved back to Denmark in 1951. Thence by descent to their grandson with residence in Denmark until today.

Attached on this site is a portrait of Erhard Marinus Petersen and his Russian marriage certificate, both in the family's private possession.

Condition Report:Minimal wear due to age and use, including minimal marks and worn gilding.
