A large Thangka of Amitabha in Sukhavati Heaven. Tibet. 19th century

Amithaba is sitting in the center on a lotus throne, his hands in dhyanamudra, holding the vessel with the elixir of life. Above him Tsongkapa, in front of his throne the teaching Padmasambhava, to the side the Eight Great Bodhisattvas, with standing figures of Avalokiteshvara (Padmani) and Vajrapani. In front of him lies the lotus pond, from flowers of which arise the souls born in paradise. In the background further buddhas, bodhisattvas, Buddhist scholars and monks. On the back a three-line inscription. Traces of age, framed under glass.
