A large and impressive bronze group of figures on a ferry on matching wood stand
Meiji Era, unsigned
Formed in parts, a helmsman to the aft of the shallow wooden river vessel conveys a selection of passengers including a young man sat crossed legged on a basket; a trained monkey sat by a basket of fruits, an elderly man tugging at the hem of the clothes of a young lady in traditional robes in front who holds a shamisen, she in turn is accompanied by an older lady, possibly her mother, who also bears a shamisen instrument case, a final older male figure, possibly crew, relaxed at the prow of the boat, all modelled upon a base section of rippled water, (small losses).
95cm wide and displayed on a carved wood stand, 104cm wide.
