Thomas Hale (1814-1883) was born in Kent and emigrated to Australia. Records show that he was employed as a watchmaker and jeweller in Sydney from 1847. The following year he advertised his own business as goldsmith and watchmaker at 168 Elizabeth St. Sydney. By 1850 he was in King St., and in 1851 at 496 George St.
