A matched pair of massive Victorian silver pilgrim bottles and covers
one John Bodman Carrington for Carrington & Co., 1892, the other Sebastian Garrard for R. & S. Garrard & Co., 1901, both London

each of oval form, applied with lobed cut-card work below a finely engraved cartouche, coat-of-arms and motto, cast leaf-flanked female masks on either side with pendent heavy chain of curved links, applied with further cut-card work and stylized stiff foliage at the neck, hinged cover with openwork finial

Condition Report:
Sebastian Garrard pilgrim bottle:
Hallmarked clearly to the body and cover.
The chain links are hallmarked for Chester 1892, maker's mark 'P&D'. As the chain on the other bottle is hallmarked for 1901, it is assumed that the chains have been removed and mismatched at some point.
The two loops at either end of the chain are not marked.
Some scratching where the chain has rubbed on the body.
Some minor marks and scuffs to the body.

Carrington pilgrim bottle:
Hallmarked clearly to the body and cover.
The chain is hallmarked for Chester 1901, maker's mark of Dimier Brothers & Co. As the chain on the other bottle is hallmarked for 1892, it is assumed that the chains have been removed and mismatched at some point.
The two loops at either end of the chain are not marked.
Some scratching where the chain has rubbed on the body.
Some minor marks and scuffs to the body.
There is a small hole in the foliage surrounding one of the female masks.
