A mid Victorian 18ct gold locket pendant, with blue enamel cross, in memorial of Sir James Tichborne, died 1862.
Length 3.7cms. 11.8gms.
Sir James Francis Doughty-Tichborne (3 October 1784 – 11 June 1862), was involved in a famous Victorian court case, in which an imposter claimed to be his presumed dead son and missing heir to the Tichborne baronetcy, following Sir James' death.
Condition Report:
- Overall condition fair. General moderate marks and wear, with several small dents to the front and reverse.
- Personal engraving to the reverse reads 'Sir James Tichborne, died June 11, 1862'.
- Enamel appears in good condition, with some light marks and scratches.
- Contains a lock of hair.
- Metal tests as approximately 20-21cts gold to the inside, front and reverse. Surmount loop tests as approximately 16-17ct gold.
- Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
- Fellows does not guarantee the standard of gold or platinum unless an item is hallmarked. Results from electronically tested items should only be used as a guide and with caution, as false readings are possible.
