A model 1900 helmet for members of the Royal Lifeguard
Body of nickel silver with gilt fittings of non-ferrous metal. On the forehead an aureola, applied thereon a silver-plated, crowned eagle with monogram “VE” for King Victor Emanuel III. On the reverse a continuous wreath of acanthus leaves. The comb richly decorated in relief with lion head and Savoyan coat of arms, black horsehair plume. Embossed chinscales (leather backing) on rosettes with five-rayed star, on the side a cloth cockade in the national colours, lateral feather plume is missing. Visors backed with red leather, broad brown leather sweatband, light-blue silk lining with gold stamp “Capo Armaiolo Corazzieri di S.M. il Re Roma”. Slightly damaged in places, traces of age. Extremely rare, representative helmet in good condition.
