A monumental German lidded vermeil trophy cup, 2nd half
Gilt silver, four hallmarks on the edge of the base, including "13" for fineness 13 lot. A baluster-like shaft, embellished with mascarons, with three S-shaped bars and winged female figures, on a contoured, bellied, circular base. The high bowl with cylindrical lacing in the centre and several grooves. Bands of relief ornamentation on the bulbous upper and lower sections, with strapwork fields containing vases, masks and birds.
A border of mythological scenes in fine relief around the middle. Domed, with a broad border, plus masks and fruit in relief. A fully sculptured figure of a knight as the finial, "MDCV" engraved on his shield.
Signs of age and handling. Height 88 cm. Weight 3.55 kg.
