A nice Egyptian basalt jar

A nice Egyptian basalt jar, Predynastic-Early Dynastic, c. 3500-2700 BC, ovoid in shape with flattened base, the short narrow neck with wide mouth with flattened rim; the shoulders of the vessel nicely adorned with an incised band of crosshatching. H: 4 5/8 in (11.7 cm). Well-preserved with light deposits. Ex collection of a Manhattan, New York professor, acquired in the 1970's.
