A pair of Austrian cold painted bronze models of African warriors
A pair of Austrian cold painted bronze models of African warriors, early 20th century, probably by Franz Bergman, each portrayed fighting animatedly, one with shield posed above his head, the other with shield held in front, each posed on a naturalistic base, one stamped GESCHUTZT to underside, the other to side of base, approximately 18cm high respectivelyCf. Bonham's San Francisco, lot 3670, 24th April 2005 for a single marked Bergman example, $1057 (inc premium)Condition Report: To the second model the shield is detached, it appears to be missing on of the 'straps', the remaining strap is broken off. It is presented along side the modelEach appear to have been designed to carry spears, neither of these are present with the lot.The surface decoration with chips and losses, scratches and marks, the cloth to the second model appears to have had some later improvement/restoration to the paint in this area Condition Report Disclaimer
