A pair of French entrefenêtre tapestries in Aubusson taste
A pair of French entrefenêtre tapestries in Aubusson taste, second half 19th century, woven in polychrome threads, each with central bouquet of flowers on a cream ground and within further floral reserve, with fringe motif to bottom edge, approximately 360cm high, 160cm wide including brass hanging rods
Provenance: Property from a Private Collection
Please note: there is metal thread in the weave in addition to silk
Condition Report:
Please note: there is also metal thread in the weave. There is a lozenge form pattern in the weave, showing some diagonal lines across the cream ground. The weave has slackened in areas, creating short and narrow gaps in the textile, also commensurate with age. Two or three of the bunches of flowers to the edges have been restitched in places, and there is some minor restitching to the central portions of the panels too One panel has two shallow areas of wear to the right side of the cream ground, where an underlying layer of threads is showing. Some of the colours are slightly faded, including the green border, however some of the pinks, oranges and greens have been quite well preserved.
