A pair of George III silver asparagus or serving tongs, of typical form with beaded edge detail, corrugated blades and fitted with a plain restraining bar. Lion passant and maker's mark only, each struck twice, tentative attribution to James Harmar. Length 9.25" (23.5cm), gross weight 4.12 ozt (128 grams).
Condition Report:
- Displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- Some minor surface nicks throughout.
- Some slight flattening to beaded edge.
- The blades appear in fairly good alignment and the restraining bar is securely fixed in position.
- Some heaier wear, damage and likely repairs to the curved, scrolled ends and circular section inbetween. Crude hole on one side and appears to be a small piece of metal sticking out.
- Hallmarks located to inner blades at the top end, these rubbed but legible. Crudely scratched numbers near to one of the lion passant punches.
