Unlike solid silver items, silver plated goods do not carry traditional hallmarks, so accurately dating them is often a matter of opinion based on style, wear and manufacturing techniques. However, Elkington & Co were one of the very few manufacturers of silver plated goods who often stamped their own series of unique 'date letters' alongside their maker's marks, which allows accurate dating of this example.
