LOT 0126

A pair of Wedgwood basalt water and wine ewers

[ translate ]

A pair of Wedgwood black basalt water and wine ewers
designed by John Flaxman (British, 1755-1826), after the models by Claude Michel Clodion (French, 1738-1814)
height 16in (40.5cm); width 6 1/4in (16cm); depth 7 1/2in (19cm)
Condition Report: Each with restored handle--the restoration is visible in both cases, and there is some fluorescence under UV light. Whilst there is no fluorescence under UV for the other areas of the ewers, there is some muddiness in areas, suggesting possible further restoration. Ewer with merman has some chips to the base. One ewer with possible firing crack to interior of spout. Typical small chips, losses and scuffs overall.
