A pair of Weissenborn concert Ukuleles

Koa wood, style 2 decoration with rope bound top and soundholes, mother of pearl dot markers to rope bound fretboard, label to interior of one instrument, housed together in double case.
Provenance: Santa Barbara Surfing Museum.

Herman Weissenborn (1863-1936) set up shop in Los Angeles around 1910, building high quality stringed instruments. His Hawaiian guitars were coveted by players for the full rich tone created by his unusual hollow neck guitar design. Weissenborn ukuleles were also highly desirable. These two concert ukes exemplify Weissenborn's craftsmanship.

Matched set belonging to Bruner, professional musician in the LA area in the 1920s. Bought by JOM from his descendants.
