A pair of flintlock pistols, Meckel in Schwerin, circa 1730 and later
Description: Round barrels of wild Damascus steel with offset midrib, smooth bores in 15 mm calibre. Silver spider front sights, silver inlaid portrayal of a standing Athene surrounded by scrolling bands at the breeches. Flat lock plates signed "I.S. Meckel à Sverin". Later stocks dating from circa 1810/20 with noses of light-coloured horn. Finely chequered butt stocks with silver studs. Finely engraved fire-gilt brass furnitures, the butt caps with raised mascarons. Wooden ramrods with horn tips. Length of either pistol 47 cm. High-quality pistols with stocks which were replaced during the time of use.
