A profusely bone-inlaid South German wheel-lock puffer with etched barrel, circa 1590
Description: Octagonal, after girdle round and smooth barrel in 14 mm calibre with conically reinforced muzzle. On the top of the barrel an ornamental etching on blackened ground. Chiselled wheel-lock with florally engraved hammer, closed wheel cover and spring-loaded safety lever. The pan cover with engraved mascaron at top and release button. The walnut stock inlaid all-over with engraved and blackened hop blossoms, birds and portrait busts. On the bottom of the ball pommel a bone inlay with engraved and blackened mascaron. The side plate with bolted belt hook. Wooden ramrod with engraved bone tip. Fine condition. Length 54 cm.
