A rare Charles I East Anglian silver Lion Sejant spoon, SI or IS with a pellet below or above, Norwich 1636, fig-shaped bowl, faceted tapering stem, the Lion Sejant finial with traces of gilding, the reverse of the bowl with an old collection label which reads ~1636 Norwich by John Stone~, length 17cm, approx. weight 1.4oz. Provenance: A Private Collection. Anonymous Collection in 1952. Sotheby and Co., Provincial Spoons, left by The Late H.D. Ellis, Esq. 13 November 1935, lot 44. Where the catalogue states: ~This most important spoon is, at present, the only known lion sejant that can definitely be ascribed to Norwich.
